Earth Hour
Saturday, March 28, 2009
The Children's Museum will be hosting activities to raise awareness about global warming and alternative forms of energy. Lights in our exhibit halls will be turned off periodically throughout the Museum and guides will be stationed at the exhibits to speak to guests about Earth Hour, alternative energy sources, and global warming. Guests can also make pinwheels to create their own wind power.
Earth Hour began in Sydney in 2007, when 2.2 million homes and businesses switched off their lights for one hour. In 2008, the message had grown into a global sustainability movement, with 50 million people switching off their lights. Global landmarks such as the Golden Gate Bridge, Rome’s Colosseum, the Sydney Opera House, and the Coca-Cola billboard in Times Square all stood in darkness. Over 74 countries and territories have pledged their support to Earth Hour 2009.
