Assist the Wildlife Sanctuary staff in performing physical examinations on Sanctuary animals. With over 100 resident animals that make The Children’s Museum their home, there is a wide range of animals to study from slinky ferrets to the 25 pound sulcata tortoise.
The program begins with a brief overview of the three animals to be examined on that day. Participants will learn proper handling techniques for each animal, as well as how to look for signs of good health. After reviewing the Museum’s physical exam procedures, each participant will be assigned responsibility for one of the animals.
Most Sanctuary animals are accustomed to being handled, but there are certain animals that cannot be included in the program as they are potentially dangerous. These include the venomous snakes, burmese pythons, large monitor lizards, snapping turtles, bobcat, raccoon and fennec foxes.
