Project SEARCH, a partnership between The Children’s Museum and the Connecticut Department of Environmental Protection, is the largest volunteer water quality monitoring program in the State of Connecticut. Project SEARCH works with high school teachers across the State to generate useful biological, chemical, and physical water quality data.
We are seeking qualified candidates for the position of Project Search Coordinator. The position begins July 2009. This position coordinates site visits and data collection with 70-80 participating schools and teachers annually, collects replicate data samples and conducts analysis for QA/QC information, compiles data, generates reports and organizes and conducts summer teacher workshop for new teachers. Experience writing grants and managing a budget is essential.
Requirements:
- BS in Environmental Science, Biology, Ecology, Chemistry, Natural Resource Management or related field
- Experience working with teachers and students
- Experience with aquatic systems and understanding of aquatic ecology
- Knowledge of family-level taxonomic identification of freshwater benthic macroinvertebrates
- Ability to use GPS and basic GIS for site mapping and non-point source pollution activities
- Familiarity with report and grant writing
