This full moon was known by early Native American tribes as the Hunters Moon because at this time of year the leaves are falling and the game is fat and ready to hunt. This is also the first of three supermoons for 2016 when the moon will be at its closest approach to the Earth and may look slightly larger and brighter than usual.
